※Application field

Biapenem side chain belongs to pharmaceutical raw material and can be used to produce Biapenem antibiotic drugs. Biapenem (LJC 10627) is a carbamicillene antibiotic for injection developed by Lederle Corporation and Cyanamine Corporation in 1989. At present, it has completed phase III clinical study in Japan and is awaiting approval for marketing. The most notable feature of this product is the 1β-methylcarbapenem with dicyclotriazole at the 2-position S. The structural-activity relationship study showed that the existence of the cationic center of its side chain ammonium was the key to affect the permeability of the outer membrane, which made the product 2 ~ 4 times stronger than Imipenem in inhibiting pseudomonas aeruginosa and anaerobe, and 4 ~ 8 times stronger than Meropenem in inhibiting drug-resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is more effective than ceftazidine against acinetobacter and anaerobic bacteria.
